MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE FOR GGU LAW STUDENTS

In furtherance of Golden Gate Law's commitment to providing an environment that fosters academic success, all registered students are required to have basic health insurance. The School of Law offers a student health insurance plan through Kaiser Permanente. Students who are already enrolled in a health insurance plan providing comparable benefits may waive participation in the Law School health insurance plan by submitting a waiver. Students who do not submit a waiver, or whose waiver request is denied, will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and their account will be charged.

2013-2014 Waiver Period for Law Students

Health insurance coverage for current and newly enrolled students will be effective August 1. To waive plan participation, please complete the Online Health Insurance Waiver Form as soon as possible, and prior to the waiver deadline. We encourage you to make these changes to your insurance (waive/enroll) before registering for fall classes, but please note that the fall waiver deadline is August 23, 2013. Students who enroll in classes after the waiver deadline and wish to waive coverage will have 5 business days to contact lawstudentservices@ggu.edu with their request to waive.

Approved waivers are valid for one full academic year, from August 1 through July 31, with the exception of waivers that are completed for the spring term. If you wish to change your enrollment (waive/enroll) after the waiver period ends, you may request a change to take effect for the spring term beginning January 1, 2014. Enrollment After Waiver Period Exceptions

After the normal enrollment and waiver period has ended (5th day of fall and spring terms), students may enroll in the law school plan only if their alternate insurance plan has been involuntarily terminated. Students are required to immediately notify the Law Registrar that their alternate coverage has ended, and proof of termination must be presented to the Law Registrar's Office within 30 days of termination. Students will be enrolled in the law school plan effective on the date of termination.

 

Statement of Benefits & coverage (SBC)

The new HealthCare Reform regulations requires that all potential insured members are notified of the availability of the health insurance plan Summary of Benefits Coverage (SBC) document. The purpose of this document is to make it easier for you to read and understand the insurance benefits made available to you in a simplified document that is standard across all insurance companies. You may obtain a copy of your SBC on the student insurance website or by calling our student insurance broker, Wells Fargo Insurance Services at (800) 853-5899.
