Adjunct Professor Sarah Burt is a staff attorney with Earthjustice, a non-profit environmental law firm, where she specializes in international environmental law. Her practice focuses on the creating regulatory frameworks to protect the Arctic environment, legal mechanisms for addressing climate change, and the intersection of environmental law and human rights.
Prior to joining Earthjustice, Professor Burt was a staff attorney at the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, DC, where she worked on issues of public participation, environmental governance, and natural resources protection, primarily in Africa and the Americas. She also served as Legal Counsel to Governor John Baldacci of Maine. Professor Burt received her JD from Columbia Law School and an LLM in public international law from the University of London, King's College. She clerked for the Honorable Kermit V. Lipez on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
